Unblocking a clogged drain

A few simple steps to try if you have a clogged drain

Using the Good Ol PlungerPlumbers, Plumbing, Slinger, plumbing contractors, emergency plumbers

The first step in taking care of a clogged drain is trying the age old method of using the plunger.  Fill the sink partially with water, just less than a quarter of the way full. If you have a double sink, you will want to block the other drain with a cloth or towel. Plunge over the drain, up and down rapidly, until the water in the sink begins to drain. If it does, it was just a small obstruction and you should be ready to go.

Baking Soda and Vinegar

Empty the water from the sink. Add a cup of baking soda down the drain and pack it down.

Next, pour a cup of vinegar down the sink and put the stopper in immediately to force it down.

The mix will foam downwards into the pipes. Let it work for five minutes and then run warm water down the drain. If it is still clogged, try four cups of boiling water.

After this you can attempt to use something like a cable auger which is a lot more difficult or finally call a professional Plumber.

Here are a few tips that can help you save additional money on your heating expenses over the next few years.

Scheduling Routine Maintenance

Cleaning the blower components, making adjustments to certain parts and settings, and completing a thorough inspection are all steps that ensure the longevity of your heater. Many people don’t remember to change the thermostat before they leave their homes.  With a smart thermostat, you don’t need to worry.  You can schedule your homes temperature and even control it remotely with your cell phone.  Keeping your temp at an efficient setting like 68 degrees while you are home is recommended by most technicians.

Keep Heating Registers Clear

if you place your favorite recliner or a sofa over the register, you’re limiting the flow of heat. It’s like leaving the vent partially or completely closed. To cut heating costs, arrange your room so that the register is as unobstructed as possible.

Ceiling fans

Hot air rises. Run your ceiling fan in reverse to bring it back down to floor level.
