With Fall around the corner homeowners in the Slinger and southeastern Wisconsin area are getting their homes ready for winter.

From replacing their storm windows to covering their air conditioning units and sealing their windows.  Don’t forget to get your plumbing ready also.

Insulate your exposed plumbing pipes van_xl

The simplest way to prevent your pipes from freezing or bursting is to be sure that your pipes are well insulated.  If your unsure if your pipes are well insulated, give us a call!

Disconnect and drain outside water hoses

Now is the time to disconnect that water hose and put it away until springtime.  Leaving it connected to your faucet outside can cause the water inside the hose to freeze and rupture the hose.  This can also cause the water inside your faucet to freeze along with connecting pipes inside your home.  We know disconnecting your hose is admitting that summer has come to a close, but rest assured that spring will be back soon.

Flush your Water Heater

Your Water Heater works twice as hard in the winter.  Flushing your water heater will help remove sediment that has built up over the past year.  It can also help prevent corrosion.

Close and drain Shut-off Valves

Close and drain the shut-off Valves leading outside.  If your home is furnished with interior shut-off valves leading to any outisde faucets, make sure to close them and drain the water from the outside lines.  It can save you from freezing damage to those pipes.
